Ghost fishing is what happens when old fishing nets, lines, floats and hooks are lost, abandoned  or discarded at sea. Ghost gear haunts the oceans, dragged around by  currents and storms for decades, indiscriminately catching and killing fish and marine mammals. Eventually it finds its way to the beach where it continues to do harm to the natural environment.
